I Totally Need My Own Space
Last night, my five-year-old daughter decided that she didn't need a mattress on the floor in her room, where my husband and I have been sleeping for the last few months, due to her night terrors. She was ready to claim her own room and sleep in it by herself. For the first time, she gladly dropped old toys, once favorites, into a black trash bag. "I totally need my own space," she said, waving her hand in the air. With that one gesture, she brushed away four years of dog figurines and trains, a wooden zoo, alphabet blocks and organized a baby-doll corner and Barbie bin.
